Perth Chapter History and Information

The Institution Ceremony of Perth Chapter No 319 was held , on Saturday 19th October 1929 at 4:30p.m. and was carried out by Bro. John McKirdy, Past Patron of Martha Chapter No 26 in Dalmuir, Scotland.

The Instituting Officer called all present to order and stated the object of the meeting and of The Order of the Eastern Star. The Secretary read the Dispensation authorising the formation of Perth Chapter No 319 and the names of the Petitioners. The Founder Members, of which there were twenty one Sisters and nine Brothers, were obligated, followed by Affialiation of three members , and a further thirteen Sisters were Initiated.

Over the years the membership steadily rose and there were many fraternal visits with the seven other Chapters in Western Australia, and the members of Perth Chapter engaged in fundraising with the view to building its own meeting hall.

In 1985, when Chapters in Australia came under the autonomous og The United Grand Chapter of Australia there were four Chapters in Perth Metropolitan Area. These Chapters came under the jurisdiction of a Deputy Grand Matron, Deputy Grand Patron and committee. Perth Chapter No 319 was renumbered No 46.

In 2001, at the Biennial Sessions, it was passed that this level of government be disbanded and the Chapters in Western Australia (now only two - Carnation Applecross Chapter being the second Western Australia Chapter) come under direct jurisdiction of the United Grand Chapter of Australia.

Perth Chapter has held numerous fundraising activities, including Easter Basket Raffles, Christmas Hamper Raffles, lamington drives and film afternoons which have enabled the Chapter to donate to charitable institutions. Such institutions as Lions Eye Institute, Cancer and eart foundations, Royal Flying Doctor Service and Cord Blood Research.

Perth Chapter,in conjunction with Carnation Applecross Chapter regularly hold Saussage Sizzles to raise funds, while other social activities are shared, such as the three hour bus trip to country town Bridgetown, where three of our members reside, to share lunch and pleasent camaraderie.

Both Chapters in Western Australia work and help each other and have a very good rapport. We hope this relationship can continue to flourish for many years to come.
