6—9 June 2013
Hobart—the place to be seen in June 2013! |
AN INVITATION
Sisters and Brothers of the Order of the Eastern Star,
It is my pleasure to extend to each of you an invitation to visit my home State, Tasmania, in June 2013 for the 14th Biennial Session of the United Grand Chapter of Australia.
Tasmanian members have already begun preparations for the Sessions. They are excited by the prospect of again hosting a Biennial Session and having the opportunity of enjoying the company of members of the Order from interstate and overseas.
We invite you to come visit our beautiful island and enjoy the friendly hospitality for which Tasmanians are renown.
Be assured a warm and sincere welcome awaits you.

The Wrest Point Conference and Entertainment Centre has been selected as the venue for the 14th Biennial Sessions.
Wrest Point is a purpose-built Conference Centre providing services and facilities of the highest standard for delegates.
It is a total complex offering two styles of accommodation, numerous meeting facilities, a wide variety of entertainment and activities, and a choice of fine restaurants and casual dining areas.
Wrest Point is only five kilometers from the CBD of Hobart. It is located on the shores of the Derwent River, offering majestic views of the river, mountain and suburbs of Hobart. There is ample open or undercover parking (at no cost), a regular bus service and a river taxi which services Wrest Point.
There is also a wide range of accommodation establishments — motels, apartments, colonial B & B — located within a two-kilometer radius of Wrest Point.
The Tasmanian Steering Committee will prepare a list of accommodation options for delegates who choose not to stay at Wrest Point.
TASMANIA
THE HOLIDAY ISLE
An international reputation for natural beauty, harmonious development, rural and heritage attractions, all within a compact island State, Tasmania is unique in Australia. These attractions, complemented by a reputation for fine food and wine, arts and crafts, and a lifestyle befitting one of the safest in the world, make Tasmania an ideal destination.
Easily reached by frequent flights or leisurely sea crossings, Tasmania offers some of the finest meeting facilities in one of the world’s most stunning environments.
Tasmania, an island of 63,000 square kilometers, is easy to get around. The cities are big enough to contain all necessary amenities and the distances between cities and towns are short. Wherever you go you are never more than an hour from the sea.
The legacies of both voluntary settlers and those who came as convicts, have contributed to Tasmania’s unique heritage. Quaint villages, colonial mansions, bridges, churches, penal sites and historic waterfronts contribute to today’s ambience.
The climate is a temperate one. The capital, Hobart, is Australia’s second driest State capital, yet it avoids extremes. The evenings of June are a time for log fires and warming foods, yet the days tend to sparkle with clarity and are invigorating.
Hobart is Australia’s second oldest and southern most city. Historically, Hobart is of enormous interest and boasts more of its original architecture remaining than any other city in Australia.
Set between the towering peak of Mount Wellington and the Derwent River, Hobart is one of Australia’s most beautiful State capitals.
Tasmania lacks nothing except pollution, stress and population pressure.
Come visit Tasmania and experience the warmth and friendliness of its proud inhabitants.
