THOSE HE LEFT BEHIND

I only knew you for a short while
But in your words I saw your smile
I wish I could have known you longer
Known you when you were a little stronger

You seemed so sweet and all who you knew
Told me they feel lost without you
How much they'll miss seeing your name
Appear on the screen and feel to blame

Because they could not have helped you more
They wish you wouldn't have closed the door
But sometimes no matter how hard we try
There is nothing we can do but cry

For the loss of a dear soul who's lost his way
And feels he can no longer bear to stay
Sometimes there is nothing we can do
Even though we have fought these battles too

The only difference is that we won
For now we are still here and hanging on
But many of us when we heard, paused and thought
It could have been me, this escape I have sought

More times than I care to remember.

But for those of us who remain behind
We must mourn our friend who was so kind
But also be glad we are still here
Even though we shed a tear

For in the end only we can decide
No matter who is by our side
What our fate will be and if we will stay
To fight this life for another day

So we will mourn the loss of our friend
His compassion and caring right till the end
He always tried to help others in need
He was smart and funny and we loved his deeds

But he would want us all to know
He was glad that we still are trying to go
On with our lives and fight to live
That's one of the reasons he tried to give

So much of himself to others in pain
He just couldn't find a way to explain
To himself a way that he could go on
And we will miss him now that he's gone

But for those of us who remain behind
We have to struggle... we have to find
A way to want to keep living each new day
So we don't leave others to feel this way

The ones left behind that wonder and say
If I would have been there that fateful day
Would he still be here, still talking to me?
But we all must know, we have to see

It's no one's fault; it was his decision to make
And sometimes no matter how much we give or take
We cannot save someone that wants to go
Even though we love them so

Whether we were there or not
We might not have had the solution he sought
But we cannot blame ourselves... for he made his own choice
We can only live with the sound of our own voice

When we say we still want to live, to go on
And remember our friend now that he is gone
And cherish the memories we hold in our heart
For if we do this, his spirit will never depart

But live on through the way he touched each one of our lives

HEART PRINTS

Whatever our hands touch...
We leave fingerprints
On walls, on furniture,
On door knobs, dishes and books.

As we touch we leave our identity.
Oh, please wherever I go today...
Help me leave heartprints.

Heartprints of compassion,
understanding and love.
Heartprints of kindness,
and genuine concern.

May my heart touch a lonely neighbor...
or a runaway child...
or an anxious mother...
or perhaps a dear friend!

I shall go out today...
to leave heartprints...
and if someone should say...
"I felt your touch!"

May that one feeling be...
Your loving touch through me!

Someone thinks I'm wonderful
She thinks I hung the moon
In my arms she is so content
With me, she'll sleep 'til noon.

I look into her soft blue eyes
So innocent and true
And I can see through them
She's telling me
Mommy, I love you.

THE ROSE

It is only a tiny rosebud --
A flower of God's design;
But I cannot unfold the petals
With these clumsy hands of mine.

The secret of unfolding flowers
Is not known to such as I--
the flower god opens so sweetly
In my hands would fade and die.

If I cannot unfold a rosebud
This flower of God's design,
The how can I think I have wisdom
To unfold this life of mine?

So I'll trust in Him for His leading
Each moment of every day,
And I'll look to Him for His guidance
Each step of the pilgrim way.

For the pathway that lies before me
My Heavenly Father knows --
I'll trust Him to unfold the moments
Just as He unfolds the rose.

IF I KNEW IT WOULD BE THE LAST TIME

If I knew it would be the last time,
that I'd see you fall asleep;
I would tuck you in more tightly,
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time,
that I see you walk out the door;
I would give you a hug and kiss,
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise;
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute or two;
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I would be there to share your day;
I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow,
to make up for an oversight;
And we always get a second chance,
to make everythink right.

There will always be another day,
to say our "I love you's".
And certainly there's another chance,
to say our "Anything I can do's?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get;
I'd like to say how much I love you,
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike;
And today may be the last chance,
you get to hold your loved one tight..

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day.

That you didn't take that extra time,
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss;
And you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
whisper in their ear;
Tell them how much you love them,
and that you'll always hold them dear.

Take time to say "I'm sorry," "please forgive me,"
"thank you" or "it's okay".
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

LIFE BEFORE THE COMPUTER

An application was for employment
A program was a TV show
A cursor used profanity
A keyboard was a piano!

Memory was something that you lost with age
A CD was a bank account
And if you had a 3 1/2 inch floppy
You hoped nobody found out!

Compress was something you did to garbage
Not something you did to a file
And if you unzipped anything in public
You'd be in jail for awhile!

Log on was adding wood to a fire
Hard drive was a long trip on the road
A mouse pad was where a mouse lived
And a backup happened to your commode!

Cut - you did with a pocket knife
Paste you did with glue
A web was a spider's home
And a virus was the flu!

I guess I'll stick to my pad and paper
And the memory in my head
I hear nobody's been killed in a computer crash
But when it happens they wish they were dead!

CHRISTMAS LIST

Snowflakes softly falling
Upon your window they play
Your blankets snug around you,
Into sleep you drift away.

I bend to gently kiss you,
when I see that on the floor
there's a letter, neatly written
I wonder who it's for.

I quietly unfold it
making sure you're still asleep,
It's a Christmas list for Santa
one my heart will always keep.

It started just as always
with the toys seen on TV,
A new watch for your father
and a winter coat for me.

But as my eyes read on
I could see that deep inside
there were many things you wished for
that your loving heart would hide.

You asked if your friend Molly
could have another Dad;
It seems her father hits her
and it makes you very sad.

Then you asked dear Santa
if the neighbors down the street
Could find a job, that he might have
some food, and clothes, and heat.

You saw a family on the news
whose house had blown away,
"Dear Santa, send them just one thing,
a place where they can stay."

"And Santa, those four cookies that
I left you for a treat,
Could you take them to the children
who have nothing else to eat."

"Do you know that little bear I have
the one I love so dear?
I'm leaving it for you to take
to Africa this year".

"And as you fly your reindeer
on this night of Jesus' birth,
Could your magic bring to everyone
goodwill and peace on earth".

"There's one last thing before you go,
so grateful I would be,
If you'd smile at Baby Jesus
in the manger by our tree."

I pulled the letter close to me'
I felt it melt my heart.
Those tiny hands had written
what no other could impart.

"And a little child shall lead them,"
was whispered in my ear
As I watched you sleep on Christmas Eve
while Santa Claus was here.

As I prayed for you today
To guide you and protect you
As you go along your way....
His love is always with you

His promises are true,
And when we give Him all our cares
You know He will see us through

So when the road you're traveling on
Seems difficult at best
Just remember I'm here praying
And God will do the rest

I asked the Lord to bless you
As I prayed for you today
To guide you and protect you
As you go along your way....

His love is always with you
His promises are true,
And when we give Him all our cares
You know He will see us through.

So when the road you're traveling on
Seems difficult at best
Just remember I'm here praying
And God will do the rest.

THE PROMISE

You are my friend and I hope you know that's true.
No matter what happens I will stand by you.

I'll be there for you whenever you need.
To lend you a hand, to do a good deed.

So just call on me when you need me my friend.
