Wilmette Park Lodge No. 931

Several Brothers of Wilmette Park Lodge attended the DDGM Meeting on January 18th, and came back with the latest Ritual and other Masonic updates.

At our Stated Meeting in February we welcomed several new Entered Aprentices at their first Meeting.

Brother Junior Warden, one of our Educational Officers, gave a most interesting presentation on “improving cognition through Masonic Practice’. Other Lodges who are interested in hearing this or any other presentation by Brother Junior Warden, please contact the Secretary for further information.

At Academic Bowl which took place on February 15th, we proudly sponsored the students of Evanston Township High School.

The DDGM of the 3rd NE District will make his Official Visit to Wilmette Park Lodge No.931 on March 6th, 2014.

Masonry’s Unique Value Proposition Continued

Masonry opens the door to thousands of years of mankind’s accumulated philosophical and spiritual traditions. It also creates a system of values so that we can openly discuss and analyze these traditions in an atmosphere of friendship and brotherly love. If we are adhering to our principles, we should be able to discuss even the most difficult issues without rancor and strife.
Masonry provide guidance and tools for spiritual and intellectual development. Our values make sure the tools are used to improve the overall quality of the man. Masonic development offers freedom of thought and inquiry, with guidelines to keep us on our proper path.
Masonry gives us light to find truth in direction in our lives. I can think of no other fraternity that provides this service.
Our unique selling proposition offers young men the opportunity to improve their lives and spirits in a free environment. The fog of confusion that veils modern life is penetrated by the light of the trained Masonic mind.
Only Masonry can teach a man how to be a Mason.

From the East:

Chain of Brothers; Brotherly Chain; Mystic Chain;
The French call it Chaine d'Union, The Germans call it Bruderkette

The Masonic Community represents itself as a Brotherly Chain.
Every Brother is an equal link of this chain.
In some European Lodges at the end of a (Stated -) Meeting a chain is formed.
All Brothers, Entered Apprentices, Fellowcrafts, Master Masons and Worshipful Master form a circle around the Altar or Tracing Board at the same time take each other’s hands and from a closed chain, whereby every Brother crosses arms, and therefore is very close to the Brother next to him. At this point the Chain Song is normally sung. For a lot of Brothers this particular moment, which is both festive and impressive, is experienced as the most inspirational part of the Meeting.
At the close chain the left (coming from the heart) arm crosses the right. The hand pointing to the left is being presented palm up. The hand pointing to the right palm down. The Brotherly Chain is a symbol of community of all Brothers.
In the chain every member realizes he a link of the whole chain. The Brother feels part of the Lodge. The chain gives one a ‘we’ feeling. Every member of the chain is an equal human being, for only the equality of the members guarantees a solid content of the chain. The chain has no beginning and no end; every Brother is at the same time the beginning and the end. With the knowledge of Brotherly Love and emphasize on equality the Brethren leave the Temple and go with positive energy back to daily life.

A mechanical chain breaks, when a link breaks. Because a Brotherly Chain is a living organism, it also has the ability to regenerate itself when a link breaks because of death or other circumstances. The remaining links close this gap again, most of the time even stronger than before.

At a (European) Masonic funeral, the coffin is being integrated as part of the chain, then only the chain of hands is being dissolved, the chain of hearts remain. --> Ouroboros --> World Brotherly Chain.
