PEACE

Peace? "What is it?" cries the heart of man.
It lies intangible, beyond our grasp,
Too far hind behind a wall of hate
For men who would it to their bosom clasp.

And so men die, and greed and hate destroy
The world each moment that it slowly turns.
"Where is the peace that Christ has promised us?"
Deep in men's hearts the question always burns.

But Jesus' peace is not that found without;
It lies within the breast of those who will
Give over all themselves to Christ the Lord.
They know peace--within 'tis quiet and still.

MY TRIP TO THE DOCTOR

Thought I'd let my doctor check me
Cause I didn't feel quite right. . .
All those aches and pains annoyed me
And I couldn't sleep at night.

He could find no real disorder
But he wouldn't let it rest
What with Medicare and Blue Cross,
We would do a couple tests.

To the hospital he sent me
Though I didn't feel that bad,
He arranged for them to give me
Every test that could be had.

I was fluoroscoped and cystoscoped,
My aging frame displayed
Stripped, on an ice cold table,
While my gizzards were x-rayed.

I was checked for worms and parasites,
For fungus and the crud,
While they pierced me with long needles
Taking samples of my blood.

Doctors came to check me over,
Probed and pushed and poked around,
And to make sure I was living
They then wired me for sound.

They have finally concluded
(Their results have filled a page)
What I have will someday kill me;
My affliction is OLD AGE.

SLOW DANCE

Have you ever watched kids
On a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain
Slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's
Erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun
Into the fading night?

You better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

Do you run through each day
On the fly?
When you ask "How are you?"
Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done
Do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores
Running through your head?

You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

Ever told your child,
We'll do it tomorrow?
And in your haste,
Not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die
Cause you never had time
To call and say "Hi"?

You'd better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

When you run so fast
To get somewhere
You miss half the fun
Of getting there.

When you worry and hurry
Through your day,
It is like an unopened gift....
Thrown away.

Life is not a race.
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over.

IT'S IN THE VALLEYS I GROW

Sometimes life seems hard to bear,
Full of sorrow, trouble and woe
It's then I have to remember
That it's in the valleys I grow.

If I always stayed on the mountain top
And never experienced pain,
I would never appreciate God's love
And would be living in vain.

I have so much to learn
And my growth is very slow,
Sometimes I need the mountain tops,
But it's in the valleys I grow.

I do not always understand
Why things happen as they do,
But I am very sure of one thing.
My Lord will see me through.

My little valleys are nothing
When I picture Christ on the cross
He went through the valley of death;
His victory was Satan's loss.

Forgive me Lord, for complaining
When I'm feeling so very low.
Just give me a gentle reminder
That it's in the valleys I grow.

Continue to strengthen me, Lord
And use my life each day
To share your love with others
And help them find their way.

Thank you for valleys, Lord
For this one thing I know
The mountain tops are glorious
But it's in the valleys I grow!

GENDER

When the gender isn't known, why must it ever be,
That the person spoken of is always called a HE.

Womens lib has tried to change what Adam must have started,
When we examine certain words it makes us feel downhearted.

CHAIRPERSON is a name we're called, the words a current one,
But the gender isn't changed the word still ends in SON.

So we call ourselves FEMALES, it really isn't fair,
Look closely at the spelling, the MALE is even there.

We'll be LADIES then you say, but that is just as bad,
The male idea is present still, that word begins with LAD.

Well I'll call myself a HUMAN, Oh what a bitter pill,
No matter what I call myself that MAN is with us still.

Although I do not like the word, I guess I'll be a MADAM,
Oh no! Here we go again, we're back to that word ADAM..

CLEANING HOUSE

Last Week I threw out Worrying,
It was getting old and in the way.
It kept me from being me;
I couldn't do things my way.

I threw out those Inhibitions;
They were just crowding me out.
Made room for my New Growth,
Got rid of my old dreams and doubts.

I threw out a book on MY PAST
(didn't have time to read it anyway).
Replaced it with New Goals,
Started reading it today.

I threw out childhood toys
(remember how I treasured them so)?
Got me a NEW PHILOSOPHY too,
Threw out the one from long ago.

Brought in some new books too,
Called I CAN, I WILL, and I MUST.
Threw out I might, I think and I ought.
WOW, You should've seen the dust.

I ran across an OLD FRIEND,
Haven't seen him in a while.
I believe his name is GOD,
Yes, I really like His style.

He helped me to do some cleaning
And added some things Himself.
Like PRAYER, HOPE and FAITH,
Yes, I placed them right on the shelf.

I picked up this special thing
And placed it at the front door.
I FOUND IT -- its called PEACE.
Nothing gets me down anymore.

Yes, I've got my house looking nice.
Looks good around the place.
For things like Worry and
TroubleThere just isn't any place.

Its good to do a little house cleaning,
Get rid of the old things on the shelf.
It sure makes things brighter;
Maybe you should TRY IT YOURSELF.
