Dr. Robert William Felkin, 1853-1926

Felkin College is named after Dr. Robert Felkin.

  • Anthropological Society
  • Ethnological Society (Germany)

He joined the Scottish Lodge of the Theosophical Society in 1886. Was a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the Stella Matutina, the Smaragdum Thalasses and was Grand Master of the Ordo Tabulae Rotundae.

Dr. Felkin was a founder member of the Guild of St. Raphael in 1915.

He was initiated into Freemasonry at the Lodge of Edinburgh (Mary’s Chapel) No.1,S.C. in 1907. Dr Felkin joined the S.R.I.A. in 1907. Dr. W. Westcott (then) Supreme Magus appointed him an inspector for Australasia, but it would seem that he never exercised his duties in New Zealand.

Robert Felkin was an Explorer, Missionary, expert on tropical medicine, a mystic, and magician. He knew Livingstone the Explorer, and Gordon of Khartoum.

With his wife and daughter ran the Smaragdum Thalasses at 'Whare Ra' in Havelock North after his death.

Dr Felkin is buried with his wife and daughter in the Havelock North Cemetery (New Zealand) facing 'Whare Ra'.
