Trestleboard

for

April 1999

Hello Brethren,

Hope this finds all brethren near and far doing well. Here is your review of last month's events and a peek towards the rainy month of April.

Your lodge represented you well in the district competition that took place during the March stated meeting. The results of the competition are not in, but feedback was positive from the judges. More importantly, those of us in lodge are aware of the improvement in how the Opening 1-2-3 ritual is conducted. Thank you to the officers for putting in the necessary time to produce this development.

March also saw the raising of Bro. Michael Hoover. Bro. Hoover is our webmaster who has done such a fantastic job with the Wilmette Park Lodge website (www.angelfire.com/il/wilmettepark/index.html). We welcome the motivation and unique talents that he brings to us. The 3rd Degree would not have been possible without the help of brethren from other lodges. I won't name them all, but we recognize and appreciate the time they took to contribute to a piece of ritual that we get to conduct all too infrequently.

Regarding the website, comments and suggestions concerning content can be made directly at the site. There are icons to sign the Guestbook and leave a message or send Bro. Hoover an e-mail.

Looking ahead, the stated meeting will fall on April 1st. Please mark your calendars as attendance is often less than normal when the meeting happens to fall on the first day of the month. Bro. Bill Hilburn has generously donated a video tour of the Grand Lodge of England that he acquired on recent travels. The video will be shown during refreshments following the stated meeting. Thank you Bro. Hilburn.

Finally, on a very sad note, Wor. Bro. Maurice Teitel has passed away. As most of you know, Wor. Bro. Teitel was our Treasurer at the time of his passing. He was raised in 1984, moved to the East in 1989 and has been our Treasurer since 1990. We will miss his comforting presence, his humor and integrity. Maury requested to have a Masonic Funeral Service. Attendance was good at the service and the family was very appreciative. Thank you to all who were able to attend.

Fraternally,

Bro. Steve Mick

Lessons From The Geese

As each goose flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the birds that follow. By flying in a “V” formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone.

When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front of it.

When the lead goose tires, it rotates back into the formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front of it.

The geese flying in formation honk to encourage those in front to keep up their speed.

When one goose gets sick, wounded or shot down, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. They stay with it until it dies or is able to fly again. Then, they launch out with another formation or catch up with the flock.
