Greetings, Thank you for electing me as Master for the coming year. I would also like to thank the installing officers and my officers for 2004-2005. A final thank you goes out to Matt Schatz, master of the SDLMR – 2003-2004. I hope a lot of you were able to attend the “Unraveling the Mysteries of Masonry” exhibit at the Courthouse Museum in Sioux Falls. I congratulate the Brothers who worked on the exhibit. Masons from across the country visited. I’m sure many people from the region also learned a great deal about Masons and Freemasonry. I encourage you all to dig into the history of your home lodge. Most lodges have historical photographs hanging on the wall. The Brookings Register recently published a 125 year edition celebrating the city of Brookings. In the community section there was a photo of Brookings men marching in 1910. Close examination of the photo revealed a group of Masons in aprons marching down Main Street (see photo below). Most likely the Brothers were celebrating St. Johns Day and were on their way to a local church. Brookings’ Masons are researching this photo along with lodge minutes. A letter to the editor will be sent to the Brookings Register newspaper explaining the photo to the public. The South Dakota Lodge of Masonic Research will also be updated with any information.
I encourage every member of this lodge to dig into the history of your home lodge and share it with your lodge Brothers and community. Until next time….. Fraternally, Dale Miskimins SDLMR Master |
