2011 RiteCare® Family Autism Camp
Radford University
“It Takes A Village”
Nearly two dozen Scottish Rite Masons from the Roanoke Valley attended the
Scottish Rite Appreciation day at the annual Autism Camp held by the Radford
University RiteCare®
Clinic.
Festivities began with the Brethren joining the campers for games used to teach
the campers various skills. Six stations were set up to teach the children
tossing, musical rhythm, and social skills.
Later, all adjourned to the auditorium where the children, teachers and
volunteers performed "It takes a Village" and their own theme, "It Takes a Child
to raise a Village." The show concluded with a reading of "It Takes a Village"
by Jim Cole.
At the conclusion of an excellent box lunch, Jim Cole presented the Clinic with
a check for $33,000.00,from the Scottish Rite Foundation of Virginia and
remarked, "You Masons know the significance of that number."
A great time was had by all! If you haven’t made the trip to Radford University to see firsthand how successful the program is and how important it is that we support it, you should make plans for next Summer!
Here is a fantastic video of the children and counselors performing for this event: Video Link
