My Brethren: Our excellent February speaker attracted a considerable crowd, but I am a bit disappointed that so few of those in attendance were from Dawson Lodge. We did have a visitor from the state of Washington, who was in town for the events of Masonic Week. That includes the Philalethes Society annual feast and forum, as well as the Grand Masters' Conference and many annual meetings of some of the less well-known York Rite bodies. Membership in the Philalethes Society is open to all Master Masons and is modestly priced. It entitles you to receive six issues per year of a high quality magazine of Masonic research, and to attend the annual meeting of the Society, which is always held in DC--certainly convenient for most of us. There is even a chapter (International Friendship) in the DC metro area. Consider pursuing your search for Masonic light by joining this excellent research group. Our speaker for March will be Right Worshipful Brother Edmund Cohen, who will speak on Masonic Symbolism. R. W. Bro. Cohen is a Past District Deputy Grand Master of Virginia's 58th Masonic District, a Degree Master (20th) in the Alexandria Scottish Rite, and has been recognized with the KCCH by the Supreme Council, SJ. His talk will enlighten us in a number of areas related to the interpretation of the symbols of our Craft. Dawson Lodge still has a number of officers' positions unfilled for this year. The duties of these positions are not onerous, although they are necessary for the satisfactory operation of the Lodge. We have but seven stated communications remaining this year; consider giving a couple of hours a month to your Lodge. Masonry is more than just paying your dues (much as we need them--is the dues card in your wallet current?); it is being of service. Lodges with hundreds of members can survive on 10% participation; Dawson cannot. YOU are duly summoned! Masonry is also about having fun. Come to Lodge and enjoy some fellowship with your Brothers. Lodge is not a bunch of strangers; it is simply a group of friends you haven't yet met. Fraternally, Roger M. Firestone, Master
