Thoughts go back to the evening of 7th June 1920, when the late W.Bro. Richard Hopper Holme, P.P.G.W., Chaplain, with enlightened diction on behalf of W.Bro. Cuthbert Snowball, presented to the Lodge a handsome Field Marshal's Sword engraved with the Lodge crest, working tools of the 2nd Degree, and suitably inscribed, in memory of his father.
Taking the hilt in his hand, the late W.Bro. G.B. Saunders, P.P.G.Ass.S., a trustee, accepted the trusty steel with easy elegance, and nature of the gift, which he described as an appropriate memento of a worthy brother, ever ready to guard the rights and protect the privileges of Master Masons.
After the sword had been handed to the Master, it was passed to the Chaplain who, in tempered phrasing, dedicated it in perpetuity for the use of Freemasonry and then transferred it to the Tyler for use at all future meeting of the Lodge.
