Prior to formation of the Grand Chapter of Maryland, Ruth Chapter #7, Order of the Eastern Star, was constituted by the General Grand Chapter on April 21, 1897. Its name was derived from the heroine portrayed in the second point of the Emblematic Star. It is now the second oldest active chapter in the state of Maryland. Among its members Ruth Chapter has been honored to number five Worthy Grand Matrons and three Worthy Grand Patrons.
In keeping with the precepts of the Order of the Eastern Star, the chapter’s primary goal is to provide charitable assistance to fund-raising organizations, medical facilities, educational institutions, civic groups, and individuals in need. Seventy five percent of funds budgeted for operation of the chapter are allocated for charitable purposes.
