Jerry Douglas Moss

Brother Moss was born the second son of James Morris Moss and Minnie Benelee Hooper of Hayesville North Carolina.  He attended the public schools and graduated from Hayesville High School in 1965.  Drafted in 1967, he served two years in the United States Army and was Honorable Discharged in July of 1969.  Brother Moss went to work for Atlantic Steel in the fall of 1969 and was with the company over 29 years.  While with Atlantic Steel, Brother Moss worked as a maintenance machinist for 24 years and a safety specialist for 3 years.  He was also active with local 2401 United Steelworkers of America and served the local in several positions including President until the company closed the operation in 1999.  He is currently employed by the United States postal Service as a mechanic.

 

 Brother Moss began his Masonic journey in Mountain Park Lodge 729 and served the Lodge as Worshipful Master in 1986.  He served as Director of Work for two years and was appointed District Deputy in 1989 by Most Worshipful Earl D. Harris.  Brother Moss had the pleasure of serving fifteen Grand Masters as District Deputy to the Grand Master.  He was selected as District Deputy of the year by Most Worshipful Brother Clyde Griffin in 1996, Served Most Worshipful Brother C. Danny Wofford as State Chairman in 1997 and was asked by Most Worshipful Brother Joseph P. Suttles to serve the remaining term of Brother John Perry.  He also served as District Chairman of the District Deputies for 11 years in the Ninth Masonic District.  In 2003 Brother Moss worked with the District Deputies to host the annual Grand Lodge Cookout.

 

 Brother Moss served the Ninth Masonic District as the first Counselor for the Defense and served one year as Chairman of the Trial Commission in 2003.

 

 He is a Past High Priest of Sweetwater Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; Past Illustrious Master of Gwinnett Council No. 44; he is currently the Eminent Commander of Dekalb Commandery No. 38.  He is a Charter Member of Gwinnett Daylight Lodge 744; and a member of the Atlanta Scottish Rite Bodies and works in the Fifth Degree.

 

 Brother Moss has served Mountain Park DeMolay as an advisor for 16 years and has received the Cross of Honor to recognize his service.  He is the Tyler of Dave Keiver Chapter, Allied Masonic Degrees, a member of Mountain Park Chapter No. 524, Order of the Eastern Star and member of Yaraab Shrine Temple.

 

 Brother Moss and his wife Sandra live in Stone Mountain, GA.  Their marriage united two families with seven children, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.  It is a pleasure to see Brother Moss continue in the Grand Lodge Family.
