RWB Ronald Willard Sears, District Deputy Grand Master in the 8th Masonic District passed away on February 8, 2009.

MWB Murphy has ordered all Masonic Lodges in Ohio to drape the Alters as a memorial to this Distinguished Mason for 30 Days from the date of his passing.

Please keep the Sears Family in your thoughts and prayers in their time of sorrow.

WEST LAFAYETTE: Chester W. Hill, 93, of West Lafayette, Ohio, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2009, at Morrison House in Zanesville, Ohio.

He was born on August 9, 1915, in West Lafayette, Ohio, the son of the late George and Nellie L. (McGiffin) Hill. Chester graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1935, and then served in the U.S. Army during World War 2 as a small arms machine mechanic. Chester retired from the former Heller Tool Co. in Newcomerstown, Ohio, in August 1980, where he was a tool and die maker, and then was a OSS security guard. He was a 50 year member of the American Legion #431 in New- comerstown, a 60 year member of the Blue Ridge Grange where he served as Master several times, Coshocton Pamona Grange where he was present and past Master, Past Master and 50 year member of the Plainfield Masonic Lodge# 224, then became a member of the Lone Star Lodge# 175 in New- comerstown where he served as Chaplain, 50 year member of Coshocton Chapter #50 of the York Bodies, 50 year member of Coshocton Council #110, 50 year member of Coshocton Commandry #63, member of the Aladdin Shrine Temple in Columbus, Ohio, a 32nd degree of Cambridge Lodge, a Past Worthy Patron of Coshocton OES #157, and was a member by faith of the Isleta United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Katie Ann (Troyer) Hill, who he married on January 14, 1978, in Phoenix, Arizona; he is also survived by six children from a former marriage, Linda (Jerry) Porteus of West Lafayette, Nancy (John) Porteus of West Lafayette, Roger (Renee') Hill of West Lafayette, James C. (Meri Lyn) Hill of Detroit, Michigan, David G. (Pamela) Hill, of West Lafayette, and Mary Lou (Larry) Heller of Coshocton, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; one step grandson; and 14 great grandchildren; Chester will also be missed by his faithful dogs, his two Beagles (Jack and Lady), and his Doberman (Toby) who he loved to go hunting and fishing with along with his son and grandson.

A funeral service for Chester will be held in the Chapel of Given Dawson Funeral Home in Coshocton, Ohio, on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Dale Thomas, and Rev. Paul Gerycz officiating. Burial will follow in Fairfield Cemetery in West Lafayette where the Coshocton Co. Veterans Council will conduct military services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 3, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m., where Lone Star Lodge # 175 will conduct Masonic Services at 8 p.m.

Herbert P. “Herb” White, age 90, of Mount Vernon, died on September 14, 2009 surrounded by his family at the Ohio Eastern Star Home.

He was born on September 30, 1918 in Howard to the late John A. and Bertha (Russell) White.

Herb was a sixty-eight year member of the Ohio Lodge #199 F & A.M. , serving as Worshipful Master in 1951 and again in 1976.  He was appointed a district education officer for the 19th Masonic District in October of 1970; served the 19th Masonic District as a District Deputy Grand Master in 1972, 1973 and 1974.  Herb was a co-chair of the Masonic T.E.L.L. program in 1986 and 1987, also served as Treasurer of the Ohio Lodge #199 Fellowcraft Club for over 25 years.  He was appointed as a representative to the Grand Lodge of Denmark near the Grand Lodge of Ohio in 1992.  His honorary Masonic memberships included, Heath Lodge #771, Mt. Zion Lodge #9, Danville Lodge #546, Coshocton Lodge #96 and Farmers Lodge #153.  In 1986 he was instrumental in helping to start the Ohio Lodge #199 Endowment Fund, which is still active today.  Herb was a 60+ year member of the Glenwood Chapter of O.E.S., where he served as Worthy Patron in 1959 and 1974.  He belonged to Clinton Chapter #26, Kinsman Council #76 and Clinton Commandery #5 for over 40 years.  He belonged to the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus and served as an Ambassador for many years and then was appointed Knox County Director in 1995.  He belonged to the Aladdin Temple Shrine and was a Charter member of the Kentucky Colonels Club and served as president in 1981.  Herb served as president of the Baldwin Shrine Club in Mount Vernon in 1991 and was appointed as an Ambassador of the Aladdin Temple where he was instrumental in getting Baldwin Shrine Club Road Runners started.  Herb was elected to serve on the executive committee of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus in 1997 and received his 33rd degree in St. Louis, Missouri on September 24, 2003.  Herb was a former member and past president of the Knox County Fair Board, founder of the Knox County Argicultural Museum, and a Harrison Twp. farmer for many years.  He was a WWII Army Veteran, serving with the combat engineers in Europe, receiving two Battle Stars.   Herb retired from the U.S. Postal Service as rural mail carrier for the Gambier Post Office.  He was a life member of the VFW and the D.A.V. and a member of the AMVETS.

Herb is survived by his wife of 63 yrs., Jessie (Lauderbaugh) White, daughters, Gwen (Jim) Dugan of Bladensburg; Rhonda (Fred) Hanus of Danville; Joretta White of Worthington; a son, Rev. Paul White of Canton, grandchildren, Beth (Robin) Totten, Jeff (Amanda) Dugan, Debra (Matt) Burden and Scott Dugan, great-grandchildren, Cody and Danielle Totten, Grace and Shelby Dugan, step-great-grandchildren, Cody and Carson Burden.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell, William, George and R. Frank White; four sisters, Lucille Hill, Lorain Lepley, Montez White and Virginia Marra.

Friends may call on Thursday from  2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, where a Masonic service will follow calling hours at 8:00 PM.  Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the church with Mr. Doug Brenneman and Thomas Orr officiating.  Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Workman Cemetery.  The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is handling the funeral arrangements for the Herb White family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Herb’s name to:  Ohio Lodge Endowment Fund or the Knox County Agricultural Museum Endowment Fund.
