November 2003

Dear Brother,

We bring you warm wishes for the holiday season. Each of us has his own reasons for giving thanks, but we can all be thankful for the bonds of brotherly love and affection made possible by membership in our ancient and honorable fraternity, and for opportunities to serve our fellow man. At this time of year we can reflect on our obligation to assist others as we give thanks. In that spirit, consider sending a holiday card to the young woman Eagle Lodge sponsors at the Masonic Home for Children: Rebecca Joines, 600 College St., Oxford, N.C. 27565. She is a top student and was just elected homecoming queen. We are proud of her.

We will have a third degree on Saturday, Dec. 6, with breakfast at 7 a.m. and the degree at 8. Please make every effort to attend. Practice for the degree will be held Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, Dec. 7 the lodge will be open from 1 to 7 p.m. for Hillsborough’s annual candlelight tour. We need volunteers to help greet visitors and give tours. We hope to see you then.

On Nov. 8 we carried out an Eagle Lodge tradition – the barbecue and Brunswick stew sale to benefit the Masonic Home. Under the watchful eye of Mitch Lloyd and with the assistance of many brethren we raised $3,500 for the home. The barbecue is a great opportunity for fellowship, as is the day in January we visit the Masonic home to present the check, attend a worship service and have lunch with the children. Brothers, if you’ve never been there, or you haven’t been in a few years, you will want to visit and see what our charity accomplishes. The date is tentatively set for Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004. Join us! We meet at the chapel at 11 a.m.

Congratulations to these brothers for attaining the following degrees: Raymond Stansbury (EA, Oct. 14), Darren Womble (MM, Oct. 18) and Willard Causey (FC, Nov. 11).

In the November newsletter we mentioned that we are raising funds to make extensive repairs on the lodge building. Mark your calendar for a fund-raising dinner scheduled for Saturday, March 20, 2004. We will also hold a putt putt golf tournament in the spring. The repairs are urgently needed but first we must raise the funds.

Your 2004 dues notice is enclosed. Please return your $75 check as soon as possible. Thank you. If you have not paid 2003 dues, we must receive your check by Jan. 8 to keep you on Eagle Lodge’s membership roster.

As always, meetings are on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7:30 p.m. Next stated communications: Dec. 9 (election of officers) and Dec. 23. We want to see you. If you need a ride to the lodge, please call any of us.
