October 2003

Dear Brother,

On Saturday, Oct. 11 Wilkerson College Lodge # 760 visits Eagle Lodge. The newest lodge in the state, Wilkerson is a traveling lodge formed in 2002 by participants in Wilkerson College, the Grand Lodge’s leadership training program. Wilkerson holds its meetings in lodges across North Carolina. Its goal is to further Masonic education and allow greater interaction and involvement by brothers around the state.

The meeting begins at 11 a.m. After breaking for lunch at 12:15, labor resumes at 1 p.m. and ends at 2. We plan to have lunch in the lodge.

Wilkerson has already gained a reputation for interesting and exciting meetings. We would like to have a good turnout of brothers from Eagle and other lodges in our area. Spread the word!

Other important dates:

Oct. 14: first degree 7:30 p.m.

Oct. 18: third degree (breakfast at 7 a.m., degree at 8 a.m.; practice Oct. 7, 7 p.m.)

Nov. 8: annual barbecue at the Exchange Club to benefit the Masonic Home for Children

Brothers, our building needs work. We raised a few hundred dollars during Hillsborough’s Last Friday celebrations but it is clear that we need to mount a major fund-raising effort. The most serious problem is rotted beams under the first floor. The floor is sagging and will eventually collapse if we do not address this problem. On the building’s exterior, mortar is missing in places, causing water to enter the building and plaster to fail.

Our 1823 building is a treasure, and is in a prime location. We will not allow it to fall into disrepair on our watch!

Our initial ideas for raising funds include holding a dinner in the spring and also asking each member to make a donation. No single idea or project will raise the amount necessary.

If you have an idea for raising funds, please let us know.

Next stated communications: Oct. 14 and 28. Meetings are on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7:30 p.m. We want to see you. If you need a ride to the lodge, please call any of us.
