July - 2008 Greetings to all my Sisters and
Brothers: The annual
Grand Chapter Session is over, and as they say - Out with the old, in with the new. I
would like to congratulate Sister Peggy Garnett on her appointment as Grand Electa. We
hope that this will be a year of great memories for you. We have several members serving
the Grand Chapter in various positions and we appreciate their recognition and their
efforts. We hope you will enjoy this year. We are
looking forward to our July meeting. We will be celebrating our 48th birthday as a
chapter. We are having a covered dish supper so prepare your favorite dish and share it
with us. And we will share some of our history with you. Our next
big event will be the 22nd District school of instruction which will be held at Cayce
Lodge Hall at Noon on July 26th. We would love to have a good attendance from our
district. I encourage you to come and learn how the work should be done. There is always
room to learn. I hope to see our folks there. It is important. We elected
two new members at our last meeting but we will not initiate them until our August
meeting. (Chapter pictures at this meeting in
formal wear at 6:30 PM. db) We do need to practice for the initiation. There are
several things we need to work on for our Official Visit as well. Also, open your minds
about a garage sale this fall. Put stuff away for it. We can pick up anything that is too
big. Our "outing" this month will be July 31st at Harbor Inn, 9001 Two Notch
Road in Columbia at 6:45 PM. Let us know if you can come. We need a count for
reservations. Remember
our sick and our shut-ins, our military and our leaders in your prayers. Let's also
remember the ones who have lost family members or friends. Don't
forget Join us for our covered dish supper. Sister

past due on April 1. - bd) Please bring to a chapter
meeting (preferable) or send to: Cayce #260 OES Jane B. Munn, Secretary 1409 Whippoorwill Drive West
Columbia, SC 29169 _________________________________________________________ Cayce Chapter was well represented at Grand Chapter
this year. Brother Harold Munn, our own Past Grand Patron, presented a well organized and
beautiful ESTARL worship service on Sunday Morning. The service was done entirely by the
students themselves. The future of our religious leadership is in the hands of some very
dedicated and bright young people. It was truly an impressive service. We were pleased to
award a number of new scholarships and renewals of scholarships. Our members were distinguished during the session in
many ways and many worked behind the scenes, unnoticed. We are proud of them all. This year will bring more honors to our chapter. As the WM has told you, Sister Peggy Garnett was
appointed as Grand Electa. She has Sister Florence Lee Carter as her Special Grand Page.
Brother Bob Fortner is serving as Deputy Grand Marshal to the Associate Grand Patron.
Sister Texa is Special Grand Page to the Associate Grand Conductress and Ed Bigleman is
Special Grand Aide to the Grand Chaplain. Go Folks, you will serve well. Thanks for what
you do, always. I encourage each of you to attend our District
School of Instruction at Noon on July 26th at Cayce Lodge Hall. The Grand Lecturer,
Sister Kaye Rackley, PGM, has a very interesting way of presenting instruction with the
latest "Power-Point" technology. Remember, the new Worthy Grand Matrons don't
make changes in the work. They just have different interpretations of things. Come see the latest interpretations. Bro. Dave Betty

SOCIAL: Harbor Inn, 9001 Two Notch near O'Neal Court. 6:45 PM, Thursday, July 31st. Report on Grand Chapter Grand
Chapter met in June at the Radisson Hotel in Columbia.
A good number of our members attended and we had a great time there. We
attended Banquets (or rather ate dinners, not really banquets), honored our ESTARL
students with scholarships and remembered our members who have passed on to be with the
Lord. We saw old friends and met new ones. We
voted on proposed by-law changes (some passed, some didn't) and elected and installed a
new corps of Grand Officers. Our
new Worthy Grand Matron is Kathy Gerner of Seneca Chapter No. 5 and our Worthy Grand
Patron is Ben Smith of John L. Flynn No. 277 in Goose Creek. As always, the line of
progression at Grand Chapter has the AGM, AGP, Grand Conductress, Associate Grand
Conductress and Grand Sentinel advancing to the next higher position. Our newly elected
line starts with the Associate Grand Conductress, Sister Bea Ayers of Westminster Chapter
103 and the Grand Sentinel, Brother Don Benson of St. Andrews Chapter 271 in Columbia.
You'll want to get an Itinerary from Sister Yvonne Barefoot, our new District Deputy, or
her Deputy Grand Marshal, Sister "BJ" Cook. This lists all the Grand Officers
and Appointees as well as the Official visits, district school, committees, appointees,
etc. ******************************************************* Lest we forget: Our people in
service; Many of our
OES family members are now, or have been, in harms way in Iraq and Afghanistan. We are
thankful for the ones who are home safely and continue to pray for God's grace for all of
our people in service to our country. |
