HISTORY OF CABOOLTURE LODGE

The Minutes of a meeting of Master Masons held on the 10th. of May 1918 reveal that a decision was made to form a new Lodge under the jurisdiction of the District Grand Lodge of Scotland and to petition for a Charter. The ceremonies of Consecration and Installation were carried out on the 16th. of August 1918 in a room at the Caboolture State School where subsequent meetings were held.

Sixteen applications for Initiation were received at the first three meetings. At an Emergent meeting on the 27th. of September, six candidates were initiated.

In July of 1919 the Lodge purchased a block of land near the railway station and on the 10th. of September the dedication of the newly built Lodge room took place. The early 1920's were busy times; for some members transport was a problem to attend. After negotiations with the State Railways, train drivers were instructed to make unscheduled stops to pick up members.

During the 1930's depression years the Lodge suffered a loss of members resulting in lower attendances. To reduce expenditure a decision was made to have the telephone disconnected. In 1935 a generator was installed to provide electric lighting until the building was connected to the electricity network in 1938.

Lodge activity slowed and attendances fell during the second World War, but increased again at its conclusion.
A note of interest is that during 1942 and 1943 many of the visitors attending the meetings were from interstate Lodges. A number of Army camps were established in the area at the time and subsequent enquiries have verified that several visitors were members of the Armed Forces.

The post-war years saw a rapid population growth in the Caboolture district. In 1955 both Caboolture and Clydesdale Lodges sold their land and buildings, and a jointly owned Temple was constructed at the present site in Dux Street. Wamuran Lodge also meets in the Centre. The first meeting of Caboolture Lodge at the new location was held in November 1956.

Since its formation the Lodge has worked a Scottish Ritual and strongly embraced the principles and aims of Freemasonry.
