Paying their Respects at the Wall A group of Audenshaw Lodge members and families attended the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire on Saturday 31st October 2009 to pay their respects and to think of those who have paid the ultimate price and those who are still in places of conflict and danger, serving to protect our freedoms.
Bro Marsh, the Worshipful Master of Audenshaw Lodge said "the National Memorial Arboretum is a light for remembrance. Choosing this weekend before Remembrance Weekend gave us the opportunity to have a good look round, but whilst we where at the wall of remembrance it was clear to see that there was so much more to see". The National Memorial Arboretum has a Freemason's garden which is boarded with yew, a symbol of longevity, which surrounds light and dark grey paving reflecting the joys and sorrows of our chequered existence. Bro Marsh went on to say "this Freemasons' garden will be of great interest as it takes shape over the next few decades, and will certainly be one of the gardens and memorials I will revisit". The Freemasons Garden is situated next to "The Royal Engineers Memorial" which has significance to the Worshipful Masters Lady, Joanne who severed with their Territorial Regiment, based at Clifton Barracks. The day was enjoyed my all and the weather stayed mild and when asked if he would organise another trip here, the Worshipful Master said "I will becoming again there is so much more to see, and if any one wishes to join in with my next visit that is fine by me".
