| Dear Brethren Following is a letter from a Job's Daughter that I think captures much of the spirit of what Job's is all about. Please take a moment to read this heartfelt letter. Gentlemen: I am writing to you today with information on the International Order of Job's Daughters, an organization for young women between the ages of 11 and 20 who have a masonic relationship. I believe that Job's Daughter's is a wonderful organization because of the many ways it
helps us grow individually. Job's Daughters helps young girls overcome their fear and
shyness of speaking publicly. Each officer is required to memorize the duties of her
office and repeat them at each meeting. This gives us practice in public speaking and very
often helps us feel more comfortable when required to speak at other functions. While I am very active in Job's Daughters, it has never interfered with my studies. It is not meant to take the place of school. As a matter of fact, each year the Grand Guardian Council awards scholarships to 15 girls who are entering college so that they can continue their schoolwork. Job's Daughters has many charity projects throughout the year. Some of those that we participate in are H.I.K.E. (Hearing Impaired Kids Endowment), the MDA Labor Day Telethon, the Ronald McDonald House and Breast Cancer Research. Each Bethel has a different charity it supports, these are just a few that I have mentioned. By helping support these charities I have learned what a good feeling it is to help others. Our other Masonic families (Masons and Eastern Star) help support us also. We show our thanks by preparing and serving dinners for them or by holding Open Ceremonies and exemplifying our work for them. Aside from all these lessons and work we have many fun activities. Each month the Honored Queen (principal officer of the Bethel) schedules a fun activity. We have gone to movies, miniature golfing, had sleepovers and joined the DeMolay for dances. If I had to sum up what Job's Daughters means to me in three words, they
would be: Won't you please sign your daughter, granddaughter or niece up to join us? She sure is missing out on a whole lot of interesting things and we're missing out by not knowing her. Hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely, Dana Capra |
