Brothers, as most of you know, Nassau County has been busily changing house numbers for the past year or so, and a few of you have had house
number changes and failed to notify us of the change. Unlike their handling of a normal change of address, in these circumstances the post office does not
forward mail to the recipient and notice of the change to the sender; they merely continue to recognize the former number during the grace period. When the
grace period ends, the post office returns first class mail to the sender marked, “No Such Address.” Two such letters were returned to me in the past month.
Lower class mail, such as our Trestleboard, goes to the dead letter barrel where it is eventually disposed of without notice to the sender. Therefore, it is essential
that you let me know your new house number before the grace period – usually one year – ends. Also, if you move or change your telephone number,
let me know of the change as soon as it occurs. You can do it in person at a meeting, by mail addressed to the Lodge, or by email to: amelia47sec@aol.com.
We appreciate your cooperation.
On another note; if you are trying to reach one of the Lodge officers by telephone, please use the numbers printed in The Trestleboard. The telephone
at the Lodge is only answered when someone happens to be in the building, and sometimes not even then. The answering machine is usually overwhelmed;
it’s unlikely that your message will be received and you will get a call-back.
Sincerely and fraternally,
Gene Botts, Secretary
