William Harrison "Jack" Dempsey Former world's heavyweight boxing champion. He was born on June 24, 1895 in Manassa, Colorado. He won the heavyweight championship by defeating Jess Willard at Toledo, Ohio on July 4, 1919 and lost the title to Gene Tunney at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Sept. 23, 1926. He was a member of Kenwood Lodge No. 800, Chicago, Ill. He was known as the “Manssa Mauler. He died of Heart Failure and entered the Celestial Lodge on May 31, 1983 in New York City, New York.
