Ancient Charge

From ancient times no Brother or Fellow would be absent from his Lodge, especially when warned to appear at it, without incurring a severe censure, unless it appeared to the Master and Wardens that pure necessity hindered him.

DUES

Brethren, dues are payable on or before the 1st of January each year.

For Lodge members within one hundred miles (160 kilometres) of Inuvik, the dues for the Lodge are $150.00 and for those with a longer cable tow, $75.00 per year.

A Little Catching Up

Brethren,

The Membership Record mentioned in the last notice is included with this notice. Many of these records are incomplete, especially regarding birth dates, previous lodges, and Title (VW, RW, MW, etc).

Please take a moment or two to add the information that is missing on your own record, and send it back to the lodge.

Of course, that would also be a good time to remit your 2003 dues, if you haven’t already done so!

Thanks for your help in bringing the Lodge records up to date.

Also included are copies of The Alberta Freemason. We will be sending these out as we receive them from Grand Lodge.

Visiting has been an important part of Freemasonry throughout the years. Our members come from Lodges across Canada and the United States, and many have visited Lodges around the world. All Brethren are encouraged to visit other Lodges, especially within the Grand Lodge of Alberta.

Master’s Message

Brethren our summer is steam-rollering ahead and there is not a moment of down time.  There are several practices slated between now and our next regular meeting in October.  There will also be a First Degree, a Second Degree for two Brethren and four to six candidates for a Third Degree, (depending on time and preparedness of all concerned).  Once schedules are checked, you will all be notified, so check your mail this summer.

By now we have roasted four pigs and participated in a Canada Day Parade as well.  We have begun to plan for next year and commenced work bees on our building.  These tasks have all strengthened us as a team, and made our community aware of our presence.  Our deepest thanks to the Top of the World Sportsmen Association for its very generous donation of $500.

My sincerest wishes for a safe and pleasurable summer.  If travelling, please be patient with others – on foot, in vehicles, on two wheels; or four smaller ones while skateboarding past you; and most importantly with those who know better than you do within the car.  May the heat of summer be from the sun and not your engine and may you find ice in your glass and not your air-conditioner.

God Bless You All J

Howard R. Townsend

Worshipful Master

From the Secretary’s Desk

Brethren, the song says “Summertime, and the livin’s easy”. Obviously, that song was not written about the brethren here in Inuvik. Summer is short here “North of 60” and we all try to take advantage of the warmer weather and 24 hour daylight.

While some of the local brethren work away at a Lodge building, others will be slaving away over a hot spit roasting a pig, muskox or chunk of caribou. Meanwhile, some of the newer members will be walking around muttering to themselves as they try to get that last bit of memory work down pat.

All the while, the long range planning of the various committees will be coming to fruition.

It is a time to attend to the business of the Lodge, but also a time to share in the Brotherhood of Freemasonry with some of the many tourists who travel the Dempster Highway to visit our little town.

As we share our experiences – both Masonic and otherwise – we are reminded of the world-wide scope of Masonry and that wherever we go, whatever we do, we are seldom more than a cable-tow’s distance from a Brother in Freemasonry.

I must take this opportunity to congratulate the Candidates who received their degrees in June. With one new member, four new Fellowcraft and a newly raised Master Mason, our humble beginnings are certainly starting to show signs of growing.

May each of you have a safe and happy summer, and don’t forget to look us up when you come for your visit.

Fraternally,

Bro. Chris M. Garven

Secretary
