I HEAR AMERICA SINGING

I hear America singing, the varied carols I hear, Those of mechanics, each one singing his as it should be blithe and strong, The carpenter singing his as he measures his plank or beam, The mason singing his as he makes ready for work, or leaves off work, The boatman singing what belongs to him in his boat, the deckhand singing on the steamboat deck, The shoemaker singing as he sits on his bench, the hatter singing as he stands, The woodcutter's song, the ploughboy's on his way in the morning, or at noon intermission or at sundown, The delicious singing of the mother, or of the young wife at work, or of the girl sewing or washing, Each singing what belongs to him or her and to none else, The day what belongs to the day-at night the party of young fellows, robust, friendly, singing with open mouths their strong melodious songs.~ Walt Whitman

Master’s Message –

In August, we had two outstanding events (outstanding because they involved food). The Annual Lodge Picnic was held on August 21. The weather was not very cooperative but we were under a roof and the food was great. Once again, Leroy Hackenberg proved what a great chef he is as the corn and dogs were delicious. On August 25, we traveled to Taggarts Ice Cream Parlor in Canton for the Kitchen Sink Degree. Three of our Brothers passed the test and ate the whole sundae (the biggest sundae that you will ever see). David Davenport and Buck Downey flew threw their sundaes. Jason Newman had to work at it, pausing to gain some space, but he made it. I am sorry to say that your Worshipful Master failed for the second time. So three brothers will get the beautiful pin and certificate at an upcoming meeting. Perhaps I can buy one on EBay. .

We have candidates ready for the Fellow Craft Degree and Entered Apprentice Degree. Check the Work Date Schedule for Degree nights. Be sure to come out on October 18, for the Past Masters Night to cheer on the Past Masters. Looking ahead, the Annual Meeting and Election is Monday, November 1 with a special event to follow. The Installation will be on Monday, November 15, 2010.

At our stated meeting this month, the Junior Grand Warden James F. Easterling gave us the information for the Corner Stone Laying for the new Barberton Middle School by the Grand Master on Saturday, September 18. See the announcement in this Bulletin for that very historical event.
